Akoya Pearls are a specific type of cultured pearl grown by the Pinctada fucata martensii species of Saltwater, pearl bearing oysters. These oysters are cultivated on pearl farms predominately in Japan and to a lesser extent in Korea, China and Vietnam. Akoya pearls have been sought after for over a hundred years, due to their round shape, small size and brilliant luster.
